A thin, fabric-reinforced silicone rubber skin covers a 3mm internal diameter pure latex tube embedded in a foam matrix. A glass fibre and resin shield together with a fur lining protect the wearer. When connected to a giving set containing red dye, this disposable manikin provides realistic feel and flashback on needle insertion for over a hundred small bore venesections or up to 50 small bore cannulations. Being able to wear the appliance enhances the content and construct validity of manikin use.

This manikin tests the ability to use an ophthalmoscope, not retinal pathology pattern recognition. The lens and light systems have to be used appropriately to allow unique, random text objects at the back of each interchangeable eye to be viewed. A realistic red reflex, wide target span of 120° and a resin face to encourage users to master the use of both eyes, optimizes the validity of this manikin in training and testing situations.
